Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) – Touchscreen System Maintenance

Title: Standard Operating Procedure – Rat Touchscreen System Maintenance
Author: Howland Lab
Date: 10/26/2020
Version: 1
Abstract: Optimal functionality of rodent touchscreen systems is achieved through a synergy between software, hardware, and electronic components. Regular system maintenance is essential for efficient training, longevity of components, and minimizing potentially confounding odors. The aim of this protocol is to outline a schedule and method for system maintenance that integrates manufacture recommendations, BrainsCAN resources, and anecdotal experience.

Version Notes

[DATE]: Version [#]

  • Adjusted the After reward pause from 5s to 10s
    • Reasoning is explained at the end of the SOP, but was based on fibre photometry recordings that demonstrated mice needed more time to baseline
  • Included an additional formula for more data we can analyze: Premature Responses
  • Added another method to run the stimulus duration probe
  • Clarified details about the Inter Trial Interval
    • Specifically, we made it clearer that the ITI is variable, rather than a constant duration between each trial
